Engine

  • 15 H.P. compound steam engine 5”+7” x 7.5” built by Sissons & Co. Glos. 1950.
  • Piston valve on the HP end driven by Stephenson’s link motion reversing gear. Slide valve and slip eccentric on the LP end.
  • Right handed three bladed bronze propeller 24”x 53”.

Boiler

  • 3-drum all-welded steel water tube boiler, Diesel fired, with an an output of 300 lbs per hour @ 150 psi.
  • Engine driven pump, injector and hand operated boiler feed pumps. Fitted with Windermere kettle. 18 Sq Ft skin condenser, welded to the outside of the hull.

Built by Bristol shipyard owner David Abels to his own design and for his own use in 1988, “Surta” has space for longer cruises being fitted with a double bed, toilet, shower, cooker and fridge.

A regular at Thames regattas and SBA events. Now for sale in good condition with a new boiler certificate.

A handsome gentlemans saloon steam launch of classic design, built for lake and coastal use. Now available for sale in superb condition, having been built to an exceptional standard during the 2010’s, and then used on Lake Windemere. Winner of the Alex Ritchie Trophy for engineering excellence.

 

HULL

L.O.A. 23 Ft.

Beam 6ft 6 inches.

Draft 2 Ft and 4″ when fully loaded.

A coastal sea-going design based on a I Jissel Model 21ft launch, but streched to 23ft. Hull is fitted with bilge keels for stability at sea. Built with cedar planks and GRP sheathed for minimum maintenance.

 

BOILER

Coal fired 200 psi Fire tube boiler

Condensing engine driven pump. Forced draft fan. Hand feed pump.

Windermere kettle, whistle, siren and steam injector, plus numerous other fittings and convenience features.

 

ENGINE

Single cylinder slide valve launch engine with Stevenson link reversing gear, built 2014.

3 1/4  Bore by 4 1/2 stroke, 4.2 HP output.

Capable of approx 6.2 knots.
